The new Pal's location in Johnson City was to be built entirely of brick in order to meet city regulations. I got to see the iconic hot dog and hamburger when they were first installed. I also interviewed the artist who created the brick food.
The latest Pal's location will have a unique design unlike what you're used to.
Due to Johnson City regulations, the Pal's on N. State of Franklin Rd. will be made entirely of brick.
The special-made hamburger and hot dog were installed Wednesday. The two were made in Nebraska and brought back to the Tri-Cities. Together they weigh more than 3 tons.
Brick Artist Jay Tschetter said the project is unlike anything else he has done.
"I scratched my head for about a month and a half, probably, wondering how I was going to do it,” Tschetter said. “Then, I plotted it all out and drew all the brick lines on the fiberglass and glued them to it."
Pal's said the brick requirement added around $250,000 to the cost of construction. The new location is expected to open in late summer.
