New Emergency Call Box Installed in Bristol

A blue post wrapped in tarp appeared in downtown Bristol. I called around and stopped by city hall and the police department to find out what the mystery post was all about.

Bristol Tennessee Police have installed a new emergency call box on State Street in front of the Paramount. The call box will allow people to reach police, fire or EMS by the push of a button.

The pole housing the call box has two cameras on it, one to see the person calling and another to see the surrounding situation.

The pole is the third one installed. There is also one on 5th Street and the corner of 7th and Shelby Streets. They plan to install a fourth.

Police say the idea for the emergency post was inspired by college campuses, where they are used in pedestrian areas.

The new pole still needs electricity and a phone line before it will be in service.
