Mullican Flooring Incentive on Agenda for Johnson City Commission

Mullican Flooring in Johnson City wanted to expand their operations, but they needed help. I interviewed city commissioner Jenny Brock about an upcoming vote where Johnson City would decide whether to join Washington County in providing a monetary incentive to help Mullican complete the expansion.

Thursday the Johnson City commission considered an incentive for Mullican Flooring to expand locally.

“They wanted to grow their business here,” Commissioner Jenny Brock said. “It just makes sense because it's increasing jobs and keeping the jobs that they already have."

If they vote to approve, Johnson City will match the $600,000 that Washington County is already providing, for a total of $1.2 million.

The money would be used to build a new warehouse owned jointly by the county and the city. All incentive money is expected to be made up with interest by charging Mullican to lease the building.

Johnson City would get the money from their economic development fund.

The expansion is expected to provide 200 new jobs.
