Bristol, Tennessee announced new branding Thursday that will be used to promote the city.

"We were looking for something that could be used in many different aspects,” Mayor Chad Keen said. “Whether it be for business, for tourism, for outdoor life, I think we've accomplished that."

The $75,000 branding project will be used to promote tourism and economic development. Half of the money came from the city, the other half from the city's utility Bristol Tennessee Essential Services.

The brand features “Bristol is” in blue and green colors matching the surrounding mountains. Words like bold, beautiful and home will go under the logo to promote Bristol's features.

“When we get tourists into town, we want to show them what a great place we are,” Keen said.

Bristol, Virginia was not part of the branding project. Vice Mayor Archie Hubbard said Bristol, Virginia decided not to join due to a lack of money.

Bristol, Tennessee holds the trademark to the new brand, but Mayor Keen says Bristol, Virginia is welcome to join.

“We see it being used in our restaurants,” Director of Community Relations Terrie Talbert said. “We see it being used in our retail developments. We see it being used even in our companies, in our economic development efforts."

The city will look toward next year’s budget in July for long-term plans for use of the brand. They eventually plan to use the logo on uniforms and city vehicles.
