During a period of extreme cold, Johnson City's Good Samaritan Ministries was looking for donations. They had seen an overwhelming need for heating bill assistance and warm clothes. The nonprofit even found homeless men who climbed into donation bins to stay warm.
The need for heating bill assistance has doubled in the past month at Good Samaritan Ministries in Johnson City due to the extreme cold.
"We had two homeless men sleep in our donation bins two nights ago," Executive Director Aaron Murphy said. "That's a serious concern. That doesn't happen, and they got in here to stay warm. We've got to do something about this."
In addition to heating bill assistance, Good Samaritan is providing blankets, hats and gloves to keep people warm. They're also giving out coffee and other warm drinks.
Murphy said he needs donations to keep providing help. You can donate money, clothes and blankets specifically to Good Samaritan's "Keeping Warm" program to help out.
