This was one of two reports I created while interning at WCYB on the first day I was sent out with only a photographer. The Johnson City Public Library was holding a presentation on snakes and other reptiles for its summer reading program. In each of these stories, I wrote the story, conducted the interviews, and edited the video.
It was a packed house Thursday at the Johnson City Public Library.
Nearly 300 people gathered for “Snakes Alive” a presentation that is part of the library's annual summer reading program entitled “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ.”
Reptile specialist Ron Cromer introduced students to different types of snakes and lizards which included a bearded dragon and a 100 pound python.
“My favorite part was the Burmese python because it was so big,” said student Chelsea Cui.
The event included a time for the kids to touch and pet some of the snakes.
“They loved it. Two of the girls ended up holding a bunch of the snakes, and I had one that was a little nervous at first but then she decided to touch the dragon,” Ashley Delavega said. Delavega had brought three girls she was babysitting to see the snakes.
The library has a different program each Thursday morning at 11 a.m. until July 21.
